Les Deux Alpes Snow Report: 3rd April 2015

A mixed week for weather this week

featured in Snow report Author Rod Frazer - BASS 2 Alpes, Guest Reporter Updated

It's been a mixed bag this week, with every kind of weather you can imagine. Mild and stormy at the beginning of the week, with rain in resort and fresh snow up top. This gave way to cooler temperatures and sunshine midweek, with excellent winter snow conditions over most of the ski area, and great spring snow on the Vallee Blanch sector, which is well worth a visit, as it's been completely deserted for the last two weeks.

There's been some great off-piste skiing to be had higher up, with a number of top ups of powder through the week, although the fluctuating temperatures, and at times high winds, have meant care has to be taken, as the avalanche risk was high in some areas. On Tuesday for example, ski patrol didn't manage to open the Bellecombe sector until midday, which disrupted uplift that morning - however best they err on the safe side.

Despite a lot of British schools being on holiday, the hill has been lovely and quiet this week. Next week will probably see more British tourists, being the main UK holiday week, but the French are still not on holiday, so it should stay pretty chilled next week. In fact, the French first zone isn't on holiday until mid April, so they'll probably hit the beach not the slopes again this year.

Happy Easter from BASS Les Deux Alpes :)
