Les Deux Alpes Snow Report: 30th December 2014

A very cold few days in 2 Alpes..& Valley Blanche is open

It was, as promised, really cold here yesterday - minus 12 at 1650m, minus 15 on the Cret and minus 20 without the wind chill at the top!

On the down side there were large queues in resort, in particular for the Jandri, and unfortunately the telephirique that departs from the Cret to take you up to mid station broke down mid morning, so there were large bottlenecks, particularly at 2100m.

This wasn't helped by folks not wanting to go up to the glacier due to the cold, so made the Cret pistes in particular very crowded. As the Valentine is very firm, a lot of skiers quite sensibly took the Demoiselles green track back to resort; this was also then jam packed.

On the up side the Vallee Blanche side of the hill opened, including the Super Venosc chair - this takes pressure off the main side and allows everyone to spread out. The Vallee Blanche pistes were generally thin cover, but as it was so cold there were snow cannons on everywhere possible, which also helps a lot as its clear skies now and no snow forecast for a few days.

The snow high up is grippy, squeeky and sweet - so wrap up and head high!
