Deux Alpes Snow Report: 20th January 2014

Powder turns in the trees at La Grave

Rod from BASS Les Deux Alpes had a great time yesterday skiing powder in the trees in La Grave...

The liaison between 2 Alpes & La Grave was due to open yesterday, but was shut due to bad weather, so I drove round to make the most of the fresh snow. With the car it takes half an hour from L2A and makes for a relaxing afternoon as you don’t need to keep an eye on the connection lift timings and has the bonus of a coffee stop in La Grave village after skiing.

The snow was surprisingly good at 3200m, hardly any wind and about 30cm of fresh powder. The hill was really quiet; a local told me that the day before it had been busier with day trippers from Grenoble, so it wasn’t getting tracked out too fast at all.

Visibility up top was poor, so we spent most of the day tree skiing. La Grave has amazing terrain on a powder day and a well spaced out larch forest, so despite the weather it was an incredible day playing in the powder!

We skied both the Chancel and Vallons sides – the snow was very sticky below P1, but we still finished the day by skiing down to the river below the village (village 1400m).
