British-run ski school offering group ski and snowboard lessons

featured in Ski lessons Updated

The European Ski and Snowboard School is a well-established independent ski school in the heart of Les Deux Alpes. Its name has become synonymous with a quality service.

The carefully selected team of international ski instructors from Britain, Italy, France and Austria will provide a fun and effective way to improve your mountain skills, whether you’re a skier or a snowboarder. All of the non-British instructors speak great English and the team as a whole is comprised of experts who are passionate about the mountain.

Group lessons

The ski school specialises in taking out only small groups (up to nine skiers or up to six snowboarders), or up to four in the VIP Gold class, so you will get all the attention you need to achieve your personal goals in complete safety.

There is a video analysis session mid-week – a really useful tool for pushing your skiing to the next level or breaking a bad habit. At the end of week presentation on Friday you will be given a logbook to record your progress and guide your future development. All children get a free medal with their logbook.

Lessons are booked at the most convenient meeting point to get the most out of the skiing time. The lesson schedule is designed to avoid rush hours and bottlenecks, and start times are adjusted during peak weeks to minimise queuing.

Worth knowing

The team also provides a full range of courses for those who wish to become instructors or simply challenge their own development.

The trainers and coaches are of the highest standard, each holding the highest possible ski instructor qualification in their own country. They work with instructors from all over Europe from BASI Level 1 through to the world's highest ski qualification, BASI 4 ISTD.

Over the years, the European Ski School has helped many aspiring ski and snowboard instructors to fulfil their dreams – several of whom are now teaching in the school.

Where to meet

Several meeting points are available for lessons at different levels:

  • in the village: the Viking beginner area and next to the Snow Garden, both with quick access to the main ski lifts
  • on the mountain: the blue ski school hut on Les Crêtes (handy for the Patache restaurant and with easy access to all grades of piste)

Directions

As you enter the resort, follow the main high street (Avenue de la Muzelle) in the Venosc direction. After at least 1km you will come to a roundabout displaying international flags, at this point you will see the office on your left hand side opposite the “Secret“ bar and across from the “Polar bear” pub.

  • nearest bus stop: No. 4
  • opposite Hotel Le Crêt and “Secret” bar
  • across from the “Polar Bear” pub

The office is open daily from 08:30 until 12:30 and from 16:00 until 19:00.

At busy times (high season and transfer days) the office is open non-stop from 08:30 until 19:00.

Child policy

The school teaches children from four years upwards in group and private lessons. Children under six are taught in the snow garden – a safe enclosed area with its own little ski lift – until they are ready to venture onto the main nursery slopes.

Extra staff are on hand at the end of lessons to look after children if parents are late for any reason and there is an identity card system in place. All instructors have produced a criminal records background check from their country of residence or origin.
