Mountain of Hell MTB Race 2016
The Mountain of Hell is back & this year's theme is "Men in Black"
Since 1999 Les 2 Alpes has hosted an incredible downhill mountain bike race known as the Mountain of Hell, and this year it's back for the 17th edition.
The race covers 25km of mixed terrain, starting on the glacier at 3300m and descends 2500 metres back to the centre of resort. It's a unique challenge, freeriding down the glacier - yes that's right it's starts on snow, which quickly turns to ice, then rock, shingle and eventually normal bike trails, setting riders against eachother in a competition of skill, speed and determination.
It's open to amateurs, professional and kids (who ride a modified version of the main race course) and around 700 people take part each year. This year the event will take place from 1st - 3rd July 2016 with the main race taking place on the Sunday.
The programme kicks off on Thursday 30th June with participants picking up race plates from the main Tourist office between 17:00 - 19:00.
On Friday 1st July riders will get the chance to reccy the course, followed by a briefing for the qualifiers which take place the following day on 2nd July.
Race day is Sunday 3rd July and it's an early start for those taking part - first lifts up the Jandri Express start at 05:30 with the first to race setting off at 09:00.
The adults race costs 70 euros for the three days and the kids race (9-14 year olds) is 15 euros (prices without insurance). If you're looking for accommodation too, the resort are offering a package of 115 euros per person based on 4 sharing an apartment for 2 nights which includes a 3 day bike pass for the race.
