La Grave ski link opens

Ski off-piste in La Grave from Les 2 Alpes

featured in News & Reviews Author Christa Jackson, 2 Alpes Reporter Updated

The direct link between Les 2 Alpes and the nearby off-piste haven of La Grave opened today after work finished on the Lauze T-bar linking the two resorts.

Skiers with a Les 2 Alpes pass for six days or more have unlimited access to La Grave via the link, which is by lift and then snowcat to the top of the drags on the Girose glacier on the other side. Don't wait for the cat to bring you back again though, because the return trip is on foot, about a 20 minute walk from the top of the Girose lifts.

Anyone on holiday can book guides for La Grave at the Bureaux des Guides in either Les Deux Alpes or La Grave itself and the ski schools run trips and courses across there each week.

Most skiers take the main routes of Vallons de la Meije and Chancel, but if you're up to it the local guides will take you down the couloirs - strictly for experienced skiers only. Avalanche kit is essential and can be hired from most ski/snowboard shops.

Skiers are strongly advised to stick to pisted run down to the restaurant Les Ruillans at the side of the Girose glacier, which remains heavily crevassed and dangerous. Last lift back uip to the top of the glacier and the route back to Les 2 Alpes is at 15:30 each afternoon. The snowcat link is open each morning from 10:00 to 13:00, except on weekends and bank holidays. Holders of Les 2 Alpes lift passes for fewer than six days benefit from a reduced rate pass available from ticket offices in resort.
